Don’t know if you and everyone out there can help stamp out one of the ugly sides of what has otherwise been a wonderful season? You may have. Noticed that our lovely receptionist Amy left the club last Saturday, apparently the victim of abuse from so called ‘supporters’. I think you will agree there isn’t a nicer more helpful person on the planet, but basically she’s had enough. She has been a wonderful ambassador for Bromley FC in the past, so can you add your voices to mine in asking for the club to put up signs warning these abusers that such behaviour will not be tolerated? Thank you.
I knew Amy was leaving but had no idea why. How can she be abused? She is one of the nicest people I have ever met. I hope those "supporters" are hanging their heads in shame. She will be so missed.
Can’t agree more, Claire. Am planning to pop down to the club later today to renew my season ticket and hope to ask the powers to be there if a warning sign can be put up to make sure such disgusting incidents don’t happen again.
That'd be a lovey idea. Just a shame that it needs to be pointed out. Surely being polite is just basic manners? Or at least it was when I was dragged up ;)
Failed to get anywhere yesterday because now that dear Amy has left reception opening hours appear to have been reduced from 10 am to 2pm, considerably fewer than Amy provided so helpfully and charmingly. Presumably it’s a cost cutting exercise - at supporters ultimate expense, of course. Sorry to appear so obsessed about this, but I am still bewildered that a young lady I described as “the lovely granddaughter I’ve never had” should have been forced out of the club by louts with loud mouths but little decency.
Completely agree and I have an article coming on that point. I spoke to Amy personally about it and passed on my thanks for all her hardwork. Absolute treasure at the club..
I can genuinely say that cheeky is most down to earth guy I’ve met - he had a good chat with my daughter last year whilst at the glades and was one of the last guys out on the pitch with the kids on Saturday - goes well beyond most with the fans
Cheeky’s such a nice guy, we were lucky to be on the train back from Harrogate with the team and there had been a ticket reservation f up, but there was no ‘do you know who we are’ and cheeky just calmly sorted the boys out (we did of course give up our table seats for the card school 🙂)
Really enjoyed your updates during the season, and look forward to the same next season. Time for some cricket now, will buy you a beer if I see you a Bickley Park CC or The Oval.
Spot on about Olomola. No Bromley fan would ever question Andy, but it is hard to see what Amantchi or Kabamba contributed that Fela wouldn't have. Wish him all the best for the next stage of his career.
Thanks for all your hard work on FBWL. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly is a real weekly treat. Glad the season finished on such a high on Saturday. Cheeky/Kabamba partnership is looking really good, hope the momentum picks up where they left off next season!
First up, let me echo the thanks of others on here for your always articulate, accurate and entertaining coverage of the club.
In terms of the Cheltenham game, I was pleased to see one of my former youth players in their goal ! I'd lost track of where Joe Day is and it was good to see him. The game was a fitting end to a season of genuine achievement. Great to see Cheeky sign off for the summer in style. Overall a comfortable win in the sun. I had a chat with Cheeky after the game - you won't meet a nicer, humbler guy - he fully deserves his multitude of awards !
I know Woody is a bit frustrated that we didn't push into a play-off place. If we had he would probably have been disappointed we didn't get an automatic promotion spot ! I love that attitude - nobody at the club is going to be doing any laurel resting while Woody is around. I think he's done a great job. He and the players can be proud of their achievements this season. But we know that he wants to go one better next season - I predict an interesting summer !
Off the pitch I see signs of ' growing pains '. The club definitely has room for improvement in it's communications with supporters. Getting an e-mail response from them is akin to blood from a stone ! A membership scheme with some tangible benefits would not go amiss, and it seems the season ticket renewals have caused issues. On a positive note, on the occasions I have been invited into the 1892 Club, I have been very impressed ( although I don't like Shepherd Neame beers - bit awkward as they were hosting ! ) - it's very well done.
So...Mash, I wish you and all others on here a great summer.
Thanks for the reporting as always. A combination of family commitments and the fact that Bromley is (with apologies to the diehards) for me a long standing secondary affiliation rather than my "main" team means I don't get to as many games as I'd like (I think I've done 7 this season), and the work you do helps me keep connected between visits.
You're point about Louis being the last (playing) link to the type of old school non league club I started supporting back in 2007 is something that hadn't registered with me previously. That makes his moving on especially sad imho.
On McKirdy, I'm purely speculating, and might be putting two and two together and making a number much bigger than four. But I wonder if he fell foul of Woody's "no idiots" policy. I don't think it's unfair to say he's been a controversial figure at times in his career, and I can't help wondering if him leaving and Woody being particularly strident in your interview about not putting up with idiots might be linked.
Anyway, thanks again for the coverage. I look forward to the close season pieces, and to next season even more
As always Mash, balanced, thoughtful and thought provoking comments which I whole heartedly agree with. Simply an unbelievable season underpinned by hard work and effort, sprinkled with skill and genius plus lifelong memories. Sir Les of Dennis is a legend, simple as. I’d like to hear your thoughts on squad additions required, as I think replacing (or resigning) Danny and Cam are key to next season, assuming we have the bulk of our permanent squad signed up already?
Have a great summer, let’s do it all again next season
I’ve really enjoyed your match assessments throughout the season, looking forward to more next season.
I’m reminded of one of your many comments regarding Michael when you said remind me why Matt Stevens won the London player of the year award for EFL 2. I think I’m correct in saying he never scored another goal throughout the season !!!
Thanks for your efforts this season Mash, your reports are always ‘honest’ which I think is important.
I was told that Mckirdy had signed for Crawley, perhaps AW’s assertion that he won’t stand for bad apples in his squad whilst being interviewed by yourself, might give a shrouded clue.

Top article.

Very nice to see Soul Kader back.

Hi Mash,
Thank you for the updates throughout the season - it's simply the best writing on Bromley available.
Thank you for the kind words

It will be August before you know it !
Is the VIP called the 1892 club? I had no idea!
It is ! I think they christened Hospitality that this season

Thank you for the support Jason.
Mash - fantastic as always and will miss these on my commute to work!
Look forward to hearing your thoughts on building the squad. Feels a bit like a changing of the guard as I assume Byron might take on the Dunney role?
Assume we’ll look to leverage loan market again which has brought us so much success in the past.
Enjoy the cricket season!
I'm locking in for the cricket season but have a few ideas for FBWL stuff over the off season - look out for it!

Articles coming on the off-season and where we go from here

Really highlights what a sham that awards event was
Thank you for all your interesting and observant comments this season Mash, much appreciated.

That's the second time I've heard the Crawley link.
