Good article, thanks. The Raven/Crow that has decided to become a Hayes Lane regular sitting at strategic places during the game has become a good luck charm. He was absent for the Aldershot game 🤷🏼‍♂️ Spooky.

Great write up, Martin!

I'm always curious as to how you and the rest of the photography crew manage to get the shots you do; some awesome stuff every game.

Oddly, as soon as Fela scored and ran to the other corner flag - I instinctively looked down towards you! I'm so used to seeing Cheek peeling away towards us behind the goal, and then seeing your shots of him and us after.

Thanks Max, glad you enjoyed the read and appreciate the kind words. Special shout out to both Chris Myatt and Scott Tweed, each of us have our own unique take on games.

It can be incredibly difficult sometimes, particularly when luck is against you and we can experience the same creative rut as any artist would. I've actually found myself unable to press the shutter sometimes for fear of missing the "money shot" as the older camera bodies I used to use would buffer due to slow write speeds on the SD cards. Real rabbit in headlight moments. Now I don't need to worry about that as I've gradually upgraded my gear but I still feel myself subconsciously thinking about it.

Another example of "The Ugly" was when Bromley went 2-0 up against Aldershot in the first three minutes and I hadn't even set up my gear pitch side by the time Cheek had slotted in the second. Both Dennis and Cheek ran to the opposite corner flag that day and after the second goal I thought "sod this" and ran down the touchline to grab at least one shot as I couldn't have the media team putting nothing out! The pictures never saw the light of day, for obvious reasons...

That's interesting! I do that too when I'm watching football on the TV or at a game as a spectator. My eyes drift to the photographers pitch side and I immediately paint a picture in my head of the image they've just snapped. When I seen Garnacho's overhead kick the other week at Goodison Park I just knew the images were going to be spectacular and boy they were.

Ha, I hadn't considered the Shots game!

A friend of mine missed both Bromley goals in the queue for food - hadn't considered the impact on the media team by having goals that early!
