Firstly, I had 4 ‘ newbies ‘ with me for the game. All of whom left highly impressed with what Bromley have to offer on and off the pitch.
In terms of the game, it was the most entertaining of goalless draws. Bromley started strongly and had the best of the first half. At the time I thought there was more to come from Port Vale and so there was. Any team that can successfully play into the pockets between midfield and defence will cause problems and they proceeded to do that.
As for the ‘ goal ‘, from my seat in the JF stand I thought it was in and was astonished that the officials missed it.
One thing highly noticeable from Bromley’s performance was the degree of confidence that the team are playing with. The players look like they now feel at home at this level.
Looking to the future, the income generated from the Newcastle game, together with the new investment, will hopefully fund some succession planning for the core of players that are into their 30’s. Although it’s hard to contemplate life without Cheeky in particular !
This was a superb Brom performance and yet another 3 points go begging. We all know we got away with one but who cares, we have had our share of bad luck, home and away! Had we have been 2 up at half time, we would probably have sat back second half abd conceded anyway. One the day, all things considered, a draw was fair.
Fela had been warming up a while & I am always happier when he is on the pitch , it's probably a case of managing minutes partly . As for the goal that wasn't given the officials can't guess they have to be sure and if they are not they can't give it , this time it went in our favour next time it may not, at least we don't have to deal with VAR.
It shows what a tricky job the ref has when VAR can take 5 minutes to come to a decision that the ref and linesman have to make in an instant. I don’t like VAR, it takes away the instantaneous elation and abject misery out of the game which I think makes football what it is. Who can forget the offside goal that wasn’t Michael Cheek scored against Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup. What I am for in the modern game is 4 assistant ‘Lino’s’ referees, 2 either half, the goal that Vale scored would have stood as would Cheeks.
The Vale had not done their homework on us, in AW speak they disrespected us, they did not expect the press or our midfield to run around like terriers and lock out their midfield, collectively they actually looked stunned during the first half.
They got their act together better in the second half but by no means did they look or did we allow them to look like a top of the league team. We witnessed one of the best games at Hayes Lane for a long while, thoroughly enjoyable, we shaded it and it would have been unjust if they had won, the football Gods were on our side.
Agree with everything everyone says; one of the best goalless draws I’ve seen in ages. Only one thing, dear chap, can you please please ask AW why the heck he always subs Congreve around 70 mins with an inferior replacement even if the lad looks the best player on the pitch. It’s a totally mystery to me and just about everyone around me in the JF Stand unless,of course, it’s some bizarre arrangement with Swansea.
Well done, Machel, for another eloquent and comprehensive write up; this time for the Bromley v Port Vale match.
It was a superbly entertaining game; end to end action with some great skills displayed by both sides. It pleases me to know that we can take the fight to a seasoned Lg2 team.
I believe that constancy of possession turned the game to our advantage and was a direct result of keeping the ball at pitch level. The looping, long passes replaced by better timing and weight of pass, not chance. I’m convinced this is what caught Port Vale by surprise. More of this please Brom!
Personally I’d have VAR in the bin at all levels. We’ve seen even at Premier League level goal line technology doesn’t always work properly, but everyone on the East Terrace knew it was in 75 yards away!
Thought the game was excellent, but we need to be more ruthless in front of goal when we are on top.

Best performance of the season, not over reliant on playing through Imray.
The referee was excellent, the assistants are not the best, but that decision was a one off
