I think we watched a different game. Bloomfield didn't win a single header and his 1st touch was dreadful. You don't get credit for just pressing as almost anyone can do that. The manager has let good players go and not replaced them. If January was when this season started then we'd be relegated. 3 wins in 21. The formation doesn't work when the manager is tactically too inept to instruct the players on how to play
You may note I say he is not technical - which echoes your point about his 1st touch.
Re: pressing - yes anyone can do that but he did more than his strike partner and as a result several attacking transition opportunities came about from that.
I agree though that for a big man he did not win any headers.
You say if January was when the season started we'd be relegated but the season started last Saturday. Judge things appropriately. Otherwise I would point out Bromley won the FA Trophy last season and therefore the season was successful.
So all he did was press, and that was only in the 2nd half. Cheek was losing his man constantly when we had possession but we kept passing back or sideways instead of making that risky pass.
I have to say I disagree with you about January and last season. We had the easiest run to the final and then the players played a blinder, the league form shows what the manager can really do. His objective was play offs and he failed, the squad that has been assembled this year tells me the objective is to stay up.
It's the same tactics since January hence why I'm judging it on that as it's clear to see 3-4-1-2 or 5-2-1-2 doesn't work for us, the players just can't play it
We can agree to disagree he pressed in the 1st half also. He had a better game than Cheek that much is clear. Although that might not be saying much.
The run to final you said was easy involved beating 3 conference clubs (one of whom got to the playoff final) and the team that won the Conference National playoffs as well as beating the team with the most money in the league in the final. It's ok to say that was a fantastic achievement and say the league campaign fell off. It doesnt have to be black or white.
If the team has a subpar season this year by all means go off but 2 games into the season may not be the best time.
After all his current record reads playoffs then FA Trophy - he may deserve a bit more time than he's no good 2 games into a new season.
Doesnt mean you're wrong but you may well be being hasty.
I dont think Billy should have got MOM but I also dont think they did anything 'wrong' in the match. Could they have recycled the ball quicker, yes. However Alty are a possession based side and we didnt see the ball all that much particularly in the 1st half. When we did it got launched long.
Two poor performances against teams that you would think will be bottom half and points lost for those hoping Bromley will make the play offs.
Almost unplayable conditions and Bromley will play much better than this.
Too early to panic but AW’s ‘work in progress’ comment isn’t something those top team managers would get away with certainly not something you expect to hear after the pre season preparations.
The next couple of games will give us a better insight as to Bromleys ‘progress’
Torquay are looking decent and Aldershot should be winnable.
I see no ‘game changers’ in this current squad yet other than Whitely possibly.
I think people are getting worked up about 'work in progress' - surely the comment means its early in the season and competitive fixtures tell you a lot more about your side. Phil Parkinson said the same about his team.
I dont know if Altrincham will be bottom half - they are full time now. Wealdstone however I suspect they will be.
All that said pressure on to now get a win from the next two games to settle some nerves (if they exist).
I think Dennis is a game changer so it may be that Whitely goes LWB and Dennis comes in.
Yes Louis is a game changer at his best but we haven't seen that for a while and maybe wont if he doesn’t get to start a few games and get into the flow.
‘Work in progress’ is not a good phrase for a manager to use at this stage I can think of better but lets see where we are after 7/8 games or if we are continuing where we left off last season,Trophy aside.
7 or 8 games is more realistic for me. I am perplexed why people are so certain about writing the side off after 2 games. In that case we better write off Dagenham & Redbridge who also only have 1 point.
Seen far too much of it across social media of teams being written off at all levels two games, its that expectation now of success for yesterday and no building for tomorrow, made us all a pretty impatient bunch imo.
Agree with the others though 'work in progress' after the season begins is a poor choice of words unless you're a new manager over the summer or in Alty's case the full time transition happening.
Yes I do agree about the heat Machel. Could have changed start time. The drink breaks and the unfortunate injury to Gould interrupted the flow of the game and only succeeded in dragging out the match longer. It showed us up in the right back position there has been no replacement for Coulson. To me Vennings and Bingham are too similar the Altrincham boy in the middle of the park is the type of creative player we need.
I think until we have seen Forster get a long stretch at RWB the jury is out re: Coulson.
re: creativity in the middle of the park that was up to Corey Whitely. Chris Conn-Clarke the Alty midfielder you're talking about also had two midfielders protecting him. Difference is he got on the ball a lot more than Corey was able to.
The problem is Forster is naturally a winger. I think you notice the difference when you look at Hannam he looks a more natural defender. I was actually disappointed with Vennings yesterday and if you are going to play Louis he needs to start every game he is undercooked and the management are not showing any faith in him. He is a confidence player.
Yes well I think you have to give the manager some credit he does get a lot of flack. Forster didn't work last week so he tried Fisher. It didn't really work but he tried. Louis playing off Cheek could work as we all know he can finish when he is on song. I also thought Sowunmi was immense at the back.

I respect your opinion, I just disagree with quite a bit of it. But it would be boring if we all thought the same way.
My ratings would have been
Charles-cook - 7
Sowumni - 8
Webster - 7
Bush - 8
Fisher - 5.5
Vennings - 6
Bingham- 7
Hamman - 6
Whitely - 6
Cheek - 6
Bloomfield- 5
Dennis - 7
Forster - 5
Coleman - 4
100% - reasoned disagreement is healthy.
Only additional comment I felt midfield pair had a "bad day at office" and your marks for them generous as was Billy ,s MOM !!
I dont think Billy should have got MOM but I also dont think they did anything 'wrong' in the match. Could they have recycled the ball quicker, yes. However Alty are a possession based side and we didnt see the ball all that much particularly in the 1st half. When we did it got launched long.
They did not win second balls or recycle effectively Hoping for better tomorrow Cheers

Assume Marriot had a knock ?
Marriott got inured in the warm up.

Yeah I hear all that tbf.
Poor choice of words but possibly not the intention meant that others have taken from it.
That said I may be giving too much benefit of doubt here
Not really seen too much of that but taken on the back of last season it would be understandable and life would be pretty dull without it tbh.
If I want happy clappy enthusiasm I can go to the New Life Church down the road.🙂
I mean the FA Trophy win was only 3 competitive games ago....but each to their own that's football.
I prefer considered discussion over happy clappy enthusiasm and doom and gloom pessimism.

You are right re: Forster but in modern football people want their wing backs to be more attacking.
But as you correctly point our Hannam is a combo of both.
I replied to someone else re: Vennings but in essence I think we went long so often that midfield was by passed. Hard to assess in that scenario.
For Louis to start either Whitely needs to go to wingback or Louis should lay off Cheek. I wonder if Andy has considered the latter.
